How Flexible Are Guest House Check-In and Check-Out Times?

Published check-in and check-out times exist so housekeeping can turn rooms over. At a small property those times are a default rather than a rule, and the answer to an early arrival or a late departure depends on one thing: whether someone else is booked into your room that day.
That means the earlier you ask, the more likely you are to get it. Ask at the time of booking and a host can often block the room the night before or leave it unsold the night after. Ask at 10:00 on the day you leave and the answer may genuinely be no.
If the room itself is not available, there is almost always a middle option: leave your luggage in a secure room, use the lounge and the Wi-Fi, and freshen up before an afternoon flight. At Dunton we do this regularly for guests with late departures and it costs nothing.
