How Far in Advance Should You Book a Guest House?

A guest house has a fraction of the rooms of a hotel, so it reaches full occupancy far sooner. As a rule of thumb, book two to four weeks ahead for a normal midweek business stay, and six to eight weeks ahead if your dates fall over a major Sandton conference, a school holiday, a long weekend or December.

Rivonia and Sandton demand is strongly weekday-driven. Monday to Thursday fills first because of business travel; Friday to Sunday is easier and often better value. If your dates are flexible by a day or two, shifting a stay to include a weekend night frequently gets you a better room at a better rate.

Last-minute enquiries are still worth making. Cancellations happen, and because we manage the diary ourselves we can often place someone the same day. If the room you wanted is gone, ask what else is open rather than assuming the property is full.
