How to Get the Best Rate When Booking a Guest House
4 min read
Booking platforms charge the property a commission, typically 15 to 20 percent. That cost is inside the rate you see. Booking direct removes the middleman, which is why a direct enquiry very often produces a better number, a better room, or both. It is not haggling — it is simply where the money goes.
Length of stay is the single biggest lever. Nightly rates assume a one or two-night stay; a week or a month changes the economics completely for the property and the discount reflects that. Always tell a host your full date range before asking for a price, and ask specifically about long-stay and corporate rates rather than waiting to be offered one.
Small flexibilities help too. Weekend nights are usually cheaper than midweek in a business suburb like Rivonia. A self-catering unit can undercut a B&B room on a longer stay once you factor in meals. And a room without the view is frequently the same size as the one with it.
Send us your dates and we will quote you our best direct rate — including what it includes, with no fees added at the end.
